People will thrash leaders who show dreams, don’t fulfill: Nitin Gadkari

This remark came just days after his comment that “the leadership should own up to defeat and failures”, in an apparent reference to the BJP’s defeat in the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Gadkari later said that his statements had been “twisted”. UNION MINISTER and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari on Sunday warned that political leaders who don’t fulfill the dreams they peddle will get “thrashed” by people. “Sapne dikhane waale neta logon ko acche lagte hain, par dikhaye hue sapne agar pure nahi kiye to janta unki pitayi bhi karti hai (People like political leaders who show them dreams. But if those dreams are not fulfilled, the people thrash these leaders),” said Gadkari. “Isliye sapne wahi dikhao jo pure ho sakein. Main sapne dikhane waale mein se nahi hu. Main jo bolta hu, woh 100 per cent danke ki chot par pura hota hai (That is why you must only show dreams that can be fulfilled. I am not among those who show dreams. Whatever I say, I

The 270-km highway, the only all weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, was closed on January 21 following heavy snowfall in the Jawahar Tunnel area — the gateway to Kashmir — and multiple landslides triggered by the incessant rains between Banihal and Ramban over the past week. A massive avalanche had also struck the highway on

Cut on motorcycle tariffs by India fair deal: Donald Trump

"Whether they think we're very nice or not so smart, they've been doing it for many, many years and we want to end it. Many of these are friends, many of these are allies... but, sometimes, allies take advantage of us even more so than our non-allies," he said. US President Donald Trump has said the decision by India last year to cut the tariffs on motorcycles by half was a fair deal, but rued the high duties on American whisky. At a White House event on the Reciprocal Trade Act on Thursday, Trump flashed out a green colour board that had examples of non-reciprocal tariffs from various countries. “Look at motorcycles as an example. (In) India, it was 100 per cent. I got them down to 50 per cent, just by talking for about two minutes. It’s still 50 per cent vs 2.4 per cent (on imported motorcycles to the US). Again, other than that, it’s a very fair deal,” the president said. Trump pointed out to the high tariff by India on import of wines. “India has a ve

The outlook for the year explains how, given the continued capex commitments, refinancing requirements would remain high for all the players. NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio Infocomm could emerge as the biggest telecom operator in fiscal year beginning April 1, a period which is unlikely to see the return of adequate pricing power for the financially stricken industry, said India Ratings and Research. “RJio’s dominance will increase as it would continue to seize market share in terms of both subscribers and revenue from Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea and eventually emerge as the largest telecom player in the industry,” the research agency has said in its release Thursday. “The pricing recovery in 2019-20 is unlikely to be sufficient to compensate for the revenue loss witnessed in the preceding two years,” it added, while giving an outlook for the upcoming financial year. An AAP government spokesperson said no file seeking any prosecution sanction in any JNU-related case had so far been brought to the notice of any Delhi minister. “If the Delhi Police are making any such claim, it is a complete lie and they are hiding something,” he said. However, a senior Delhi Police official said prosecution sanction is required at the stage of taking cognisance. He said that while filing the chargesheet, the investigating officer had mentioned that
