Farmers’ suicide: In six prone districts of Vidarbha, tally continues to drop since 2015

Till December 29 this year, 1,102 suicides have been registered officially as per figures tabulated by the state government task force Vasantrao Naik Sheti Swawlamban Mission. The combined rural suicide tally of six cotton-producing districts in Vidarbha, officially called as ‘farmers’ suicides’, has continually declined since 2015 when it had suddenly jumped to 1,348 from 805 in 2013. Till December 29 this year, 1,102 suicides have been registered officially as per figures tabulated by the state government task force Vasantrao Naik Sheti Swawlamban Mission. The six districts known for farmers’ suicide are Wardha, Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Washim and Buldana. The only district which is an exception to this downward trend is Buldana, whose tally has gone up successively since 2013. From 111 that year, it touched its highest peak of 312 in 2017. Airtel has introduced a new first recharge plan of Rs 76 for its new customers. NEW DELHI: Telecom operator Airtel has revamped its first recharge (FRC) prepaid plans for its new subscribers. The first recharge plans from Airtel starts at Rs 178 and goes up to Rs 559. The company has now removed the Rs 344 and Rs 559 plan and in place of them it has added a new FRC prepaid plan of Rs 76. The new prepaid plan of Rs 76 offers talktime of Rs 26 and it valid for the period of 28 days. Users will also get 100MB of data and they will be charged 60 paise per minute for local and STD calls. NEW DELHI: India’s fourth-largest operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has done away with blackout days, it said in a statement. This would mean that state-run telco’s customers can use voice and data services seamlessly in the New Year eve starting from December 31 to January 1, 2019. ‘Bank fraud’: ED files prosecution complaint against Vadodara company

Watch: Cruising at 180 kmph, Train 18 ‘officially’ becomes India’s fastest

Days ahead of flag off, Train 18, India’s first engineless-train, “officially became the fastest train in the country” to travel at a sustained speed of 180 kilometers per hour (kmph) during a trial run, Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal said. The train has outsped Gatiman Express which currently holds the record of being the fastest train with a top speed of 160 kmph. Taking to Twitter, the minister on Wednesday said, “Need for Speed: Train 18 seen cruising at a sustained 180Km/h, officially becoming the fastest train in India.” The train, which will replace Shatabdi trains and will run between New Delhi and Varanasi, will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 29.
